In response to Alok, I agree fully Rajesh is a great actor when in the hand of Right director, brim to the fullest without his own mannerism. And this movie does the full justice to him. He deserves more award for his astonishing performance. Everyone look so natural. Look at his eyes in the bedroom which is overflowing with love

Even as a teenager I was smitten by Rajesh Khanna in this movie. I watched every bit of the movie again and again with a so meaningful/beautiful title song. It shows the relationship between a man and woman who on their wedding anniversary go to their past memory to find the true meaning of relationship. In between daughter comes in their life. Specially I like the dialogue shadishuda lok khoyab nahi dekhte hein, unka khoyaish hote hein. SImply beautifully presented movie by Basu Bhattacharyya

Surprisingly it’s not a very popular movie but it’s awesome! Beautifully made and delivered. And that song is amazing.

This is the only movie she has appeared in. She was a costume designer for 2 other films – An Evening in Paris and Hulchul.
I had only seen most of his more popular movies earlier -romancing the most beautiful girls and singing some of the best songs of the time. But this last one week has been a real discovery to me too. I’m amazed that he chose to play such roles.
Naukari…will check it out next time I go DVD shopping. Rajesh Khanna under Hrishi da and Raj kapoor’s direction…sounds interesting.
Oh yes, Sharmila was great too. They have complemented each other’s character and performance so well.
Them feeding each other is a very cute scene and I love the dialogue here :
Mansi : My grandma was right – the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
Amar : Your grandma didn’t say anything about the way to a woman’s heart?

A classic movie for sure!!! And yes, both look great in it.
I love the songs and the way they are picturised. Thanks for confirming my doubt about that scene being from Safar.

SY–You’re right about the cover being from Safar. And about Minna Johar though I can’t remember seeing her in any of the films of that time (that I have seen at least).

Aavishkar was one of the very first RK films I saw and of course, I was totally, totally bowled over None of the later 80s horrors have been able to displace all the awesomeness that came before. And Aavishkar is right up there. Again a very atypical film for a hero with the kind of image he had. It was almost as if he was rebelling against the system by playing the anti-thesis of his good boy-next-door image. A small budget Basu B film in the midst of all the craze surrounding him at the time–this is what makes this chap so interesting. I’d like to recommend his “Naukri” to you (directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee with Raj Kapoor) which sank without a trace when it released but is a pretty phenomenal piece of work in hindsight.

By the way, I have to say Sharmila was just great here too. The way she and Kaka feed off each other is quite something. Thanks for the fabulous screen caps by the way

It is a classic movie- Rajesh and Sharmila are excellent and both look very good in the movie. Very real and natural. Rajesh Khanna puts in a performance which should have got him more awards – he is a great actor when in the hands of good directors and the movie has him without his mannerisms. The music is pleasant. Manna Dey’s title track is sung very well. The cover on the DVD is from Safar and not from the movie.

Hee hee….yeah, it does sound like some sci-fi invention and discovery movie.
Then she must be Minna Johar. One of my friend’s sister’s name was Dennis, so I was just wondering.

Oh, this sounds wonderful. I must get hold of it! (For some odd reason, I always thought Avishkar was some cheesy sci-fi film – perhaps because of the name?)

I don’t think Rita would be Dennis Clement – Dennis is a man’s name, no?
